'When a dog runs at you, whistle for him.' - Henry David Thoreau
Dogs and people have lived together for thousands of years. Perhaps tens of thousands. They hunted beside man and helped man to hunt. They reaped the benefits in sharing of food, a warm fire on cold nights and most likely a good neck and belly rubbing. They gave love and received it in return. Dogs provided protection and in return were protected. They provided companionship and assistance to man. We have domesticated many animals over the course of time, yet the special relationship and bond between man and dog has remained one of trust and true friendship.
We are not a kennel, our dogs live as part of our family. A doggie door allows them access to a well fenced area all day to go out and in as they please. We vacation with our dogs and they love rides in the car. We use a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. We feed a high quality diet of Wellness Brand dry as well as raw meat, bone, organ and vegetable. We titer annually and do not over vaccinate while continuing regular health checks according to accepted veterinary standards. We use and recommend Interceptor brand heart worm preventative year round.
Every night we squeeze together in bed- though there are times when my husband will opt for the couch. It is amazing how much room three, eleven pound dogs can take up in a bed. If you know dachshunds, you know they would not choose the couch over the bed for sleeping at night.
